Potential of AM Processes with Fiat Chrysler and Fraunhofer IAPT

Fraunhofer Institute and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles have collaborated to produce high-performance sports car wheel components using additive manufacturing (AM). The project demonstrates how AM can deliver complex geometries, lightweight designs, and high-strength parts that are difficult or impossible to achieve with conventional manufacturing.

The initiative highlights the growing adoption of 3D printing in the automotive sector, combining advanced engineering, materials expertise, and digital design to enhance performance while reducing production time. This project also underscores the trend of using AM not just for prototyping but for functional, load-bearing components in high-end vehicles.
